Hi all,
This past week, we have seen a shift in mindset here at SOE. With all the buzz surrounding* the 42nd Earth Day and Earth Week last week, we came back to the office with an urge to be more eco-friendly. In the last week alone, we have seen an uptick in the number of offices that have turned their lights off and used natural light from their windows; abandoned printers as employees are sharing notes via email and utilizing tablets; less coffee cups used as more reusable coffee mugs are introduced to the morning kitchen coffee rush. While we have seen some pretty cool changes in the last few days, we shouldn’t forget the things we have already been doing to be more eco-conscious.
Choosing to be an online interactive entertainment company is part of our small step to help Mother Earth. Our games are fully downloadable from the Internet, eliminating the need for boxes and packaging materials.* With the estimated amount of waste collected and treated increasing each year, it is more important than ever for us to be cognizant of the products we purchase and the impact it has on the environment.
Speaking of smart eco-friendly purchases…with summer around the corner, everyone will likely be equipped daily with ice bottles of water to battle the heat. Hopefully, your bottle of water is a reusable bottle, filled with filtered tap water. Not sure if everyone knows, but approximately 1.5 million barrels of oil are used to make plastic water bottles, and transporting these bottles burns even more oil. That is enough oil to run 100,000 cars for a whole year. Pretty shocking isn’t it? It is because of this fact that here at SOE, we encourage employees to use company- provided reusable water bottles. Our SOE-branded bottles not only inspire corporate pride and SOE spirit, but they also allow us to reduce our consumption of bottled water and paper cups.
With all the water that everyone will be consuming, the restrooms will see no shortage of patrons. Well, good thing here at SOE, we believe in using environmentally-friendly Clea Care restroom products. Restrooms may be the last thing on anyone’s minds, but in the journey towards a cleaner environment, every small step helps. Using environmentally-friendly products helps us reduce our carbon footprint on the environment and it is definitely something we are proud of.
Earth Week and Earth Day inspired our continued awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment. We here at SOE plan to continue doing what we already do and more to help the environment. Hey, we even named our last DC Universe Online DLC pack “The Battle for Earth” in honor of Mother Nature! Well, no, not really but we here all like to think so! That said, the battle to save the environment continues and we hope you join us in our fight to be more eco-friendly.
