By now, you’ve read all the stories and interviews from E3. You’ve seen videos, photos, webcasts, and heard all the big news. This year’s E3 was an incredible show for all of us at SOE! We brought home a huge number of nominations and awards and got to show off what’s next in so many of our current and upcoming titles. *(Check the end of this article for the massive list!)
PlanetSide 2 generated the most excitement. When we were on our way up to Los Angeles, we were thinking to ourselves, “Will people like it? Will they spend time playing? Will they love our partnership with Total Biscuit?”
Of course they liked it. It was epic. It was massive. It was PlanetSide 2! *There is more excitement about PlanetSide 2 later in the article, along with the current list of awards.
http://stationblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/blog1.jpg?w=500&h=281
It all started with the booth, and our team put together a fantastic one! We were located right inside the main doors to the West Hall at E3. Everyone who walked through the door saw the booth, and BAM! GAMES! Our booth was very inviting; you could walk up and play our games, or talk to our developers and producers. You could see the latest DLC teases from DC Universe Online (http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/). You could talk to Michelle Butler about the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/index.vm) Free to Play launch. You could watch Dave Georgeson (https://twitter.com/#%21/Qixter) make all manner of funny faces while demonstrating the new SOEmote (http://www.everquest2.com/news/article?month=062012&id=51242) for journalists.
We also showed our latest two games in the SOE publishing portfolio, Bullet Run from Acony and Wizardry Online from Gamepot.* Clone Wars Adventures and Free Realms had new exciting additions. Todd Carson was showing the first glimpse of the new trading card game in Clone Wars Adventures. Harvey Burgess gave tours around the new Sunstone Valley content. Everything we put on the floor drew people right in.

Of course, the booth featured the upcoming PlanetSide 2 (http://www.planetside2.com/). Oh, DID we show off PlanetSide 2!* It all started with our PlanetSide 2 Theater Presentation. The PlanetSide 2 team manned our theater, created specifically to show off the Empires at War (http://youtu.be/r_htNqTRnv0) video and the PlanetSide 2 overview (http://www.twitch.tv/soe/b/320566131) video. We had lots of interactive goodness happening in the booth!
http://stationblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/blog3.jpg?w=500&h=281
In the PlanetSide 2 section of the booth, we set up 12 stations so all attendees could jump in and get to play PlanetSide 2 hands-on for the very firs t time. During the play sessions, we broadcast out to the West Hall, so people walking by the booth could get a play-by-play hosted by Margaret “PurrfectStorm” Krohn (https://twitter.com/#%21/purrfectstorm) and Adam “Arclegger” Clegg (https://twitter.com/#%21/arclegger).
http://stationblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/booth4.jpg?w=500&h=281Margaret “PurrfectStorm” Krohn and Adam “Arclegger” Clegg
Along with all the great PlanetSide hands-on and commentary, we had these actual PlanetSide 2 soldiers, fresh in from Auraxis! Each one was armored up as one of the three Empires.

For those of you who couldn’t make it to E3, we worked hard to bring E3 to you. To start, we invited Total Biscuit (http://www.cynicalbrit.com/) to our booth for three live webcasts! You can watch his livecast recordings on his YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/TotalHalibut/videos?query=planetside+2).* We were very happy to have him spending time in our booth; it was great to welcome his followers to our community!
http://stationblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/img_2445.jpg?w=500&h=333John “TotalBiscuit” Bain broadcasting with Margaret “PurrfectStorm” Krohn
Our own team hosted three live webcasts over the course of E3. The first livecast was hosted by Linda “Brasse” Carlson, Director of Global Community Relations, giving a booth tour (http://www.twitch.tv/soe/b/320471743)!* Next up was our livecast of the PlanetSide 2 Presentation (http://www.twitch.tv/soe/b/320566131). We broadcast the exact same presentation that the attendees were receiving in the theater. Last up was our interview (http://youtu.be/uhYiKc6X2-k) with Keishi Iwahara, Producer of Wizardry Online, as well as Daniel Szkoropad, International Business Department, to talk about Wizardry Online.
We also did our best to keep you updated on Facebook and Twitter, and our team produced some amazing content to share with attendees and non-attendees alike! The most popular thing ended up being our PlanetSide 2 beta key giveaways. Shocking! Everyone went crazy trying to snatch up a key on Facebook and on the @PlanetSide2 Twitter account. [We’re still giving them away on Twitter!]
http://stationblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/new-picture.png?w=381&h=509Giving away all the things!
We also shared candid photos & video with our communities. You can see many of the photos on our SOE Facebook E3 Album (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.402227899815950.83779.122577587780984&type=3). There are still more pictures to share, so keep on checking back!
Speaking of videos, we captured a few videos right from our booth. See the view from our 2nd story press hangout in this quick video (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151007890916293), or check out how insane our Twitter feeds got! With all the beta keys being passed out, @PlanetSide2 responses were just scrolling by so fast. Watch that video here (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150997959886293) on the PlanetSide 2 Facebook page!
Oh, and the Twitter wall! We had many people stop by to watch and also see their own tweets show up! The gentleman in this photo was trying to get his tweet up on our two hashtags (#E3SOE #PS2E3) and replies to @SonyOnline and @PlanetSide2!
http://stationblog.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/new-picture-1.png?w=500&h=282Challenge Accepted! Trying to get his name across each column on the Twitter board.
Of course, a few lucky fans got a chance to come to the show as winners of the E3 Platinum Gamer Giveaway! We registered the lucky winners with E3 so they could get all access to the event. Check out what they had to say about their experience in their interviews: *Colton “ColeX” Lacks (http://stationblog.wordpress.com/2012/06/15/soe-interviews-a-winner-of-the-e3-platinum-gamer-sweepstakes/) and Ice_Hole of OMG Im Drunk (http://stationblog.wordpress.com/2012/06/19/soe-interviews-2nd-winner-of-the-e3-platinum-gamer-sweepstakes/).
Finally, the part of the show which made us the most proud was all the awards and nominations. When the nominations started flowing in, well, we won’t lie…many of us were crying tears of joy. Our team worked so hard and we are so very proud of the games we create. We’re grateful for all the love and support from our players & fans, our fansites, the press, and everyone involved! *Please enjoy our latest lists of awards, nominations, and previews from E3.
