It’s that time of the month again, time to meet The SOE Gamer of the Month! The SOE Gamer of the Month Challenge is changing its focus a bit. The SOE Community Team would like to introduce the March SOE Gamer for 2011, Aurelis in EverQuest II. Get to know her better. Sometime in the near future you may hear questions answered that she submitted in an SOE Podcast.

Question: Where in the real life world do you live (city and state)?
Answer:I am in North Carolina (US), near Chapel Hill.
Question: What SOE game(s) do you play?
Answer:I play EverQuest 2… or as I like to jokingly call it from time to time, EverTome 2!
Question: How long have you played the above game(s)?
Answer:Oh golly- not nearly as long as some other folk. 4-5 years sounds about right, though.
Question: What other games do you play?
Answer:Maybe you’ve heard of it – it’s an extremely difficult game that requires hardcore dedication… Life! *sobs* I wish I could cancel my subscription and just play EQ2 but alas, they have me under a long-term commitment…
Question: Why would you like to be the SOE Gamer of the Month?
Answer:Why would I like to be? I don’t know… Ask the person who told me to do this!
Question: What do you do for a living?
Answer:I do a bit of data entry work when I have the time, but I put much of my focus on coursework which is the main reason why EQ2 is not my main focus as of late! (: I am working toward a bachelor’s degree in Information Technologies with a databases emphasis.
Question: How many hours a week do you play video games?
Answer:Goodness, not as many as I used to! Some days I won’t play at all because of coursework or other reality-based things, but some days (like the day after Velious launched) I’ll play for many, many hours.
Question: Tell us about your character(s).
Answer:Oh, Aure, Aure, Aure… Aurelis’s name was originally Faeryl, meaning ‘wolf healer’ in Drow or something like that, because she started out as a Dark Elf Warden. I kept the name when I rerolled her as a Necromancer, but had to pick a new one when I made the jump to Bazaar – why did I do that when there is so much hateration toward the server? Well, it was free, automatic (at the time), and I didn’t like the one I was on. So nya! (:
Aurelis is a book nut. She is TOTALLY into books. I mean… whoa. Even I have to stare at her and go, “Really? What’s wrong with you?” sometimes!
Question: How did you get into gaming?
Answer:My parents! They’re gamers. It’s in my blood! My first MMO was Ultima Online. Guess where I spent most of my time… yup that’s right! Britain’s library – the upper city one (I think it was the Public Library). I loved the books in UO and it was only all too easy for me to love them in EQ2.
Question: What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other than playing video games?
Answer:Well, I like to cook, though I’m terrible at it. I especially enjoy making cookies for kindly folk I’m fond of and salads for my baby African Grey, Jivu. Grapes and broccoli are his favorite!
Question: What do you like the most about your favorite SOE game?
Answer:What do *I* like most? The community – that includes players and devfolk. I’m not saying this to suck up in the least, but the devfolk of EQ2 are the best I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. I mean, I don’t feel intimidated sending a PM to one about things (usually book-related) and they have always been friendly to me and, as far as I’ve seen, on the forums to others.
Aurelis, of course, likes books the most.
Question: What’s the first thing you do when you log into your game? Do you have a routine?
Answer:The first thing I do… Check to see if any of the people on my friends’ list are online, and if so, harass them most likely. I like to keep an eye on Antonia_Bayle.Homeshow – my favorite in-game channel! Otherwise, it varies from questing with Ferrel on Oasis to standing around and just watching Homeshow on Bazaar.
Question: Let’s talk favorites… What is your favorite item? (Is there one you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons?), What is your favorite zone? What is your favorite NPC? Do you have a favorite in-game memory?
Answer: All of my favorite items are books. My favorite book series, though, would be the Blood of the Bear series. I don’t know why but it has always stuck with me!
My favorite zone is Forsaken City.* Oh gosh.* I have so many memories of sneaking through Forsaken City when I was, what, level 70, invisible.* I would stand on a fluttering page and have my pet pull the nearby mobs while I frantically grabbed the page.* Harvey always stayed alive just long enough for me – what a good, strong gargoyle he was…
My favorite NPC is Tome Warden K’Narn.* She’s my favorite because if she thinks I like her, she might let her guard down and I can steal her position.* Aure already lives in the Academy basement…* It’s only a matter of time before she replaces K’Narn and becomes*Bibliophile Aurelis the Tome Warden.* *cackle*
My Favorite in-game memory: the making, completing, and Domino-visiting of my “0-Count Book House.”* That project started out as just, “Can I make a chair?” to “Hey, well, I need a table for my chair…”*to “Okay, I’ll just go ahead and make a whole one-room apartment, then…”* Having Domino visit and sit on one of the chairs that started it all was the cherry to my ice cream sundae of insanity.
Question: What is the most in-game currency you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters?
Answer: I spent… I think it was 400-500 plat on a book and it was so worth it! A Tattered Journal is one of my most prized tomely possessions and I would have gladly paid even more for the beauty.
Question: If you could have a superpower or a spell/ability from the game you play, what would it be?
Answer: Hmmm… I want Aure’s 100% success rate Feign Death. I could get myself out of any awkward situation!
“Hey, what are you doing here?* It’s been so long since we talked!* I tried calling your cell, but you–”
“*flops over dead*”
“Oh god, what?!* She died!”
“*the moment their back is turned… flop up and run*”
…* Then, of course, later deny the whole thing ever happened and have the person question their sanity.* (:
Question: If there was one thing you could tell the SOE Community about yourself, what would it be?
Answer: That I love ZAM (http://eq2.zam.com/) almost as much as Aure loves books! So if you’re not a ZAM fan… You should be! Because I was told I get cookies if I drop names, so uh… ZAM!
