It’s that time of the month again; time to meet the SOE Gamer of the Month!*The SOE Community Team would like to introduce the May SOE Gamer for 2011,*Drekkin Hart in Star Wars Galaxies. Get to know him better. Some time in the near future you may hear questions answered that he submitted in an SOE Podcast.

Question: Where in the real life world do you live (city and state)?
Answer:*Currently living and studying in Ballarat in Victoria, Australia, and commuting to part time work in Melbourne.
Question: What SOE game(s) do you play?
Answer:*Star Wars Galaxies most regularly, as well as the SWG TCG scenarios. Thanks to Station Access I also check into EverQuest 2 and Legends of Norrath maybe once a month and also recently patched Pirates of the Burning Sea’s Power and Prestige expansion and sailed around trying to remember how to play after a long hiatus. I’m also leveling a hero on the Death & Glory server of DCUO, after enjoying the PvP in beta more than my RP loyalties would have suggested. I’ve also dabbled in Vanguard, PlanetSide and FreeRealms in the past but they didn’t make it to my current desktop.
SOE’s Facebook games I’ve also given some time to on their release but nothing’s really stuck yet.* Having said that, Dungeon Overlord is shaping up as one that I’ll be messing about with for some time – very addictive.
Total SOE fanboy, clearly.
Question: How long have you played the above game(s)?
Answer:*Star Wars Galaxies is the only one that’s been an almost constant feature and I’ve been playing it since the first week of its release in 2003. I missed the first few days as it took a little while for the majestic black & purple ‘A Galaxy Divided’ box to reach me in Australia.
Question: What other games do you play?
Answer:*Right now I have an active EVE Online subscription as well since it’s another great sandbox MMO, and I appreciate CCP’s desire to innovate and evolve with the promise of Incarna and Dust 514 (which drew me back recently after an aborted foray into EVE a couple of years ago). I also have Empire at War Forces of Corruption on my desktop for PC gaming fixes when the internet fails me, and Dawn of War because my brother occasionally calls me for a skirmish in it.
Question: Why would you like to be the SOE Gamer of the Month?
Answer:*Unadulterated narcissism.
That and I’ve pretty much done par for the course when it comes to what SOE has to offer (except the original EverQuest itself) and I’d like to provide some small measure of insight into why I’ve become such a fan of the SWG and SOE communities.
Question: What do you do for a living?
Answer:*I used to work in psychological research, and loved interviewing and assessing clients at risk of illness, but found that most people working in the profession were obsessive, retentive control freaks riddled with insecurity seeking to validate their opinion and gain authority by labelling and marginalizing others with abrogating and jargonistic terms that…..oh, wait, I did that too.
I’m now working in an animal shelter doing general administration (mostly answering phones) while I try and finish my first two novels. I’m also burning up a lot of time in a great education course so I can eventually teach English and Psychology to young malleable minds.
Question: How many hours a week do you play video games
Answer:*Something like 14+ I’d say. My novels have made slow progress, yes. *cough*
Question: Tell us about your character(s).
Answer:*Drekkin Hart’s a Mon Calamari droid engineer who’s been drawn into the Galactic Civil War due to personal tragedy and a reluctance to see people bullied by an Empire that had subjugated Dac until the resistance that he participated in. Drek currently resides in River Haven on Corellia.

I’ve also got Draash (a Trandoshan Jedi), Arkhamm (a human Smuggler) and Riz (an Ithorian Structures Trader)
Question: How did you get into gaming?
Answer:*It used to be what my brother and I spent every school holiday doing. In my distant youth my dad gave me a book that taught you how to write up basic computer games in BASIC, back when our home PC was green on black. After toying with that for a while my brother and I became fascinated with the magics of a Commodore 64 at a family friend’s place, and we saved up our newspaper delivery monies for a Sega Master System and spent countless hours playing a game called Psycho Fox (basically a complete rip-off of Mario Brothers). It’s pretty much been downhill from there.
I’ve just provided regrettable insight into my approximate age.
Question: What’s the first thing you do when you log into your game? Do you have a routine?
Answer:*These days I usually check the GCW to see which invasion’s coming up next, looking at Dearic in particular, and check the current GCW scores. Then I look to see who’s online.
Question: Let’s talk favorites… What is your favorite item? (Is there one you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons?), What is your favorite zone? What is your favorite NPC? Do you have a favorite in-game memory?
Answer:*I’m pretty sure I still have the satellite detector I got from an event in the distant past that centered around a treasure hunt conducted for Nym.
Very difficult to pick just one zone. So much of Kashyyyk impresses me in terms of the ambience of the various parts of the jungle world, but I’d have to go with the feeling I get in the middle of an invasion. Of those, I’d have to say my favourite is Bestine (even though I spend more time in the other two!!).
For NPC, it changes, but I do like Cale Herron from the ‘Something is Obviously Wrong’ quest leading into the Quarantine Zone.* The guy’s dialogue and quests were well done.
In-game Memory: When it was clear that my PA’s city on Lok, on the Wanderhome server, was going to eventually lose its status, I put together an event to mark its passing.* Still look back on that fondly.
Question: What is the most in-game currency you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters?
Answer:*No idea. I’m pretty reluctant to spend alot of credits since a DE doesn’t see many of them. I have dumped quite a bit into Chronicles fragments and relics though.
Question: If you could have a superpower or a spell/ability from the game you play, what would it be?
Answer:*Chronicler Ventriloquism.
Question: If there was one thing you could tell the SOE community about yourself, what would it be?
Answer:*I’m not a member of the grammar police, but I will write you up for Wookieepedia neglect.
